| Way back in 2006, Nuclear Dawn was announced as an amateur Source mod with a focus on futuristic, team-based action, basically playing as a combination of RTS and FPS. It sounded fairly awesome to me, especially seeing some of the concept work, and I've been quietly watching it ever since. Well, after three years of development and numerous lineup changes in the development team, Nuclear Dawn looks like it might finally see the light of day sometime in 2010. However, it's made that rare leap from free mod to full-on retail product (a la Zeno Clash and Garry's Mod). While I'm definitely excited about finally PLAYING the damn thing, I'm a little disappointed at looking forward to a well-made mod for so long and and then finding out it's going to be a commercial game instead. The commercial jump can mean many things, not all good or bad, for mods; getting money means that a lot more time and resources can be devoted to the game, but it also means, potentially, outside influence. Unfortunately, there's not even a trailer up yet (though the website promises one soon), so I can't really get a good idea of how things are going and whether I should REALLY be worried or not. For those of you that are interested, here's the website: http://www.nucleardawnthegame.com/ | |

that leap from Mod to Retail Game isn't becoming rare anymore on any engine,Killing Floor & Out of Hell.(Both UT2004 Mod's,KF's already been released while Out of Hell's being developed but it's been stated that OoH will be released as both the UT2004 Mod and the Full Retail Product.) Seems that Mods are finally getting the recognition they deserve these days. | |
